Our Staff

When you choose a surgeon, you are also choosing his staff. Your total care will be the result of their ability to anticipate and respond to your needs. The tenure and team cohesiveness Dr. Watanabe has inspired is rare—every member of his staff has been part of his practice for over 10 years. Their mutual goal? To have each patient sense they are in the right hands from the first consultation, to the last follow up visit.

Patty Flanagan
Patient Account Coordinator

Patty has worked in healthcare for 39 years—11 of those with Dr. Watanabe. Her responsibility is to assist with questions and needs patients may have regarding insurance, financing and payment, depending on the procedure(s.)

Her background in medicine and degree in Business and Management give patients the best of both worlds as she works through each individual’s coverage and financial obligations. “I strive to deliver the best financial assistance I possibly can for every patient. All of us develop a personal relationship with our patients—they often comment on our “family atmosphere.” That kind of feedback makes us feel good.”

Lupe Chirat
Patient Care Coordinator

Lupe’s role is to see every patient after their consultation to offer additional explanation of Dr. Watanabe’s recommendations, present fees, answer any questions, and prepare them for all the steps involved in their procedure. Having had cosmetic surgery herself, Lupe knows what the patient may or may not have considered. After 41 years in the medical field and 11 with Dr. Watanabe, Lupe draws on a wealth of experience. “It’s important that every patient feel comfortable talking with me about anything to do with their decision to have surgery. There is the obvious physical side, but dealing with the emotional part can be difficult when they don’t know what to expect. My job is to celebrate their decision and make their journey a pleasant and informative one…to get to know them as people, not just another procedure.” Coffman Photo

Ellies Watanabe
Office Manager, Patient Coordinator
Ellies Photo Ellies’s role, in the 23 years of working in the practice, has been multi-dimensional. Her main efforts, however, have always centered on building relationships with patients. “My philosophy is very simple: express the same respect and courtesy as one would expect to receive from others. It is very important to provide every patient the time they need – to let them know our door is always open for questions and assurance. Our loyal staff understands our patients’ desire to communicate their questions and needs. We take great effort to follow this patient-centric philosophy. With this attitude and philosophy, we have built a loyalty-based practice with our patients.”

Celine Capone, R.N.
Nurse

You may see Celine in our office, in surgery or in the recovery room. She has been working with Dr. Watanabe since 1981. Prior to that time Celine worked as a nurse in the hospital for 30 years with extensive experience in cardiology and surgery.

Aside from her Bachelor of Science degree and R.N., she has certifications in plastic surgery nursing and ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support.) “I enjoy working as a team member with my co-workers and Dr. Watanabe in a very comfortable environment.”

Annette Shumpert
Certified Surgical Technician
Shumpert Photo Annette works side by side with Dr. Watanabe in the surgery suite. It is her responsibility to be certain the surgery is properly outfitted for each procedure. She also takes part in post op visits. Her education includes a degree from the American College of Paramedical Arts and Sciences. Annette’s 10 year anniversary with Dr. Watanabe is part of a total of 28 years of surgical experience. Considering a decade of service at the practice, she is not surprised at her coworkers’ length of service with one doctor. “I have worked with lots of doctors over the years. Dr. Watanabe treats his staff with the same respect he gives every patient. He has a quiet confidence about him without being intimidating—just a kind man.”

Carolyn Cunningham
Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist
“As a nurse, my favorite subjects were physiology and pharmacology, so this is a great niche for me.” Carolyn provides anesthesia for Dr. Watanabe’s patients. She earned her Bachelor of Science in anesthesia in 1979 and has been with Dr. Watanabe since 1983. “The tenure of our surgical staff is clearly a benefit to our patients. We know each other and the procedures so well. There is an inherent efficiency in this level of care.” Carolyn meets with each patient prior to surgery to reassure them and answer any questions they may have about side effects. “My job is to anticipate and minimize any physical or emotional discomfort a patient voices. I get satisfaction out of hearing I helped calm any pre-surgical anxiety and provided a smooth recovery.” Cunningham Photo

Charlene Weitz
RN, CRNA

Weitz Photo Charlene has been a registered nurse since 1971 and a nurse anesthetist since 1977. Aside from administering full anesthesia, Charlene emphasizes the benefits nursing experience brings to total patient care. “We assess the patient preoperatively, put them to sleep safely, and stay with them in recovery. Our background enables us to provide a high level of personal attention to every patient—not just in the operating room, but throughout the whole process.” Charlene has been with Dr. Watanabe since 1987. “I enjoy a wonderful working environment. Dr. Watanabe spares no expense when it comes to standard of care. Other offices don’t even come close.”
